CARROLL-PÖHLS LAB
Meet The Team
Dr. Jan-Hendrik Carroll-Pöhls
Assistant Professor
Fritz Grein Science Research Recipient
Jan has joined the Department of Chemistry as an assistant professor at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. Jan received his BSc and MSc in Materials Science and Engineering from Kiel University in Germany. For his PhD, he moved to Halifax where he worked under Dr. Mary Anne White. Before joining UNB, Jan conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Alberta (Dr. Arthur Mar), McGill University (Dr. Bradley Siwick), and McMaster University (Dr. Yurij Mozharivskyj). When Jan is not in the lab, he is going running, hiking, or exploring the farmer's market.
Aspen Hall
Undergraduate Honors Researcher
My name is Aspen, and I am a fourth year undergraduate student in the Carroll-Pöhls group. I am currently working on my Honours project focused on synthesizing and extracting transition metal dichalcogenides with analysis of crystal structure. I am also performing density functional theory calculations on these compounds. While I enjoy all the work I am doing, my absolute favourite task (and potential new-found hobby) has been designing and making a good amount of the glassware I use in the lab. Outside of the lab, I love to spend my time crocheting, baking, and being outdoors.
Elham Rezaee
Doctoral Student
Hello there! I’m Elham, your friendly neighborhood PhD student, diving deep into the world of topological thermoelectric materials using advanced experimental studies and first-principles calculations. It's not just about atoms and molecules for me; it's a thrilling adventure in the land of science! But wait, there's more to this scientist. I'm also a painter, capturing my thoughts on canvas. When I'm not in the lab or lost in a canvas wonders, you can find me running through the trails or camping under the vast sky. Oh, and did I mention? Cats are my absolute favorite. Join me on this exciting journey where academia meets art, nature, and purring companions! 🌟🔬🎨🌲🐈⬛
Madeline Nowlan
Undergraduate Researcher
My name is Madeline and I am a second-year undergraduate student in biochemistry working on the superconductivity in transition metal dichalcogenides. I have a huge admiration for animals and spending lots of time with my huge family.
Brianna Aubé
Undergraduate Researcher
That's me on the right ;) I am currently a second year undergraduate student in chemistry. My work in the lab consists of growing transition metal dichalcogenides and separating them into monolayers. Outside of my studies I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether it's hiking, camping, or simply enjoying nature. I am a total dog lover - any size, shape, and colour will melt my heart! Inside you'll likely find me playing piano or curled up with a good book.
Kieran Leblanc
Undergraduate Researcher
Hi! My name is Kieran LeBlanc, and I am an undergraduate chemistry researcher. I am studying room temperature superconductors, specifically attempting to replicate LK-99. Outside of academics, I like playing video games, playing dungeons and dragons, and bouldering.
